Make of these as you will. They were made for me, allegedly,by a Romani friend, but I was never convinced because of the holding marks which indicate a grip tool I wouldn't think they had. They are second hand and I think made of beech but far from sure. £2.50, free post.
Piece of lace said to be made by Romani woman. It is certainly hand made. I have 8 such pieces, hawked in the Hexham area in the 1950s/60s by 2 ladies who called themselves ‘Rosie Lee’ and ‘Mrs Smith’. Not much help in identifying but lace is authentic and made by them. A lady I know looked at them for me and confirms they are hand made (there are faults). The purchasers were 2 ladies in the Hexham area, unconnected with each other, who, when they died, had their homes cleared by a dealer from whom I have obtained them. This one measures 33cm by 56cm being the largest. ‘’Rosie Lee’ was one of the nom de plumes of a Romani I knew who was one of the Prices and from whom I bought her ‘bits’ of remaindered lace many years ago. May be just coincidence, of course. Really no idea what to charge but £8 FREE POST UK (only) does not seem out of place considering the hours which must have gone into it. Lace making was rare as it was so finicky and hard to do by firelight/candle/oil lamp. I saw it being made in the 1980s and have a photo from before then but my Romany friends tell me it was very exceptional to actually make it.
